Last Christmas

What a moment more adequate than the end of December to discuss Last Christmas, a romance that was particularly popular with the Japanese public when it was broadcast? My experience is more or less happy with shoujo and television adaptations had not stopped to appreciate the finesse with which screenwriters and directors in Japan highlight the feelings of their characters. I also am I attacked with curiosity to this series.

The tone is set by the entry of generic music that is other than the syrupy Last Christmas by Wham! ... And the early episodes, we do not know where to head between the various love triangles, fantasies romantic and other marital problems. Would I drown myself in the marshmallow?

Verily Last Christmas is better than that first impression, mainly thanks to a casting exceptional. First, we assess the performance of the stars that are confirmed and Yuji Oda Akiko Yada, offering viewers probably one of the best alchemy torque seen in a drama. Their characters, Kenji and Yuki, are particularly well supported, especially by the charismatic Higaki Naoya (Hiroshi Tamaki, two years before the extraordinary Nodame Cantabile), the beautiful Fujisawa Ritsuko (Nana Katase), the unbearable Shintani Goro (Tsuyoshi Ihara) ugly but honest and Hayama Teppei (Mirai Moriyama, who badly needs a visit to the orthodontist). Special mentions for Ryo and Megumi, the latter showing that her acting talents go far beyond his famous hat H. With these players, the flood of good feelings, scenes with rose water and all kinds of shots finally going well, calmly and smoothly.

If a single qualifying should be coupled with this series, it would certainly be "cute". I was not expecting much of a romance, if it is handled with quality and elegance, even if exaggerated, artificial offered the Japanese series. This was the case. We certainly find more exciting, funnier, thinner, more involved, but Last Christmas floated this little smile on his lips indicating that we had a good time. Nothing more, nothing less, just "a good time." Is not this the point?

The problem lies precisely in that group, particularly in the character of Domyoji Tsukasa. Primo, "Matsumoche is ugly, and if we can do nothing against nature (though ... ask his opinion Kame-Chan) is somewhat problematic as when it is supposed to incarnate a lady-killer. This drama is a monument to Japanese television. To give an idea, this series has won all the prizes to the 24th Television Drama Academy Awards, his eleventh and final episode has captured the largest audience (41.3%!) Je suis resté pantois devant la compréhension intime de la scénariste (Kitagawa Eriko) s’agissant du rapport de la personne handicapée à sa maladie et surtout aux autres.

Kyoko (Tokiwa Takako) est cette femme en fauteuil roulant, vivante, courageuse, et pourtant si pleine d’appréhensions : comment croire en l’amour quand on feels himself so weak, so different, so unusual? Between the fine evocation of the theme of disability, the romance of the main characters, the lightness of some scenes, the depth and emotional impact of others, a perfect balance is achieved. Also worn by top players, Beautiful Life thus proves to be a romantic drama like no other.

My first jdrama had to be my first post. Let's put us in context. Apart from a few films Beat Takeshi and feelings of my childhood, my ignorance of Japanese audiovisual production was abysmal. Invited by my Beautiful to look at one of these disturbing " dorama » qu’elle dévorait alors quasi quotidiennement, mon choix se porta négligemment sur une série supposée légère et drôle.

Et l’univers bascula…

Non, My Boss, My Hero n’est pas un chef d’œuvre du 7ème art, loin s’en faut. Mais il sera suffisamment bon pour m’inciter à regarder des dizaines d’autres dramas. C’est déjà une qualité, mais pas la seule. My Boss, My Hero est l’histoire du volcanique Sakaki « Tornado » Makio, héritier d’un clan yakuza, âgé de 27 ans et bête à manger hay. So stupid that his father sends him to school with the threat to disinherit him in case of failure in examinations at the end of the year. Obviously, Makio must hide his age and his "work" to his classmates and teachers under threat of deportation. Hence, flow naturally a series of frankly hilarious scenes in the last ten episodes of the series. Aussi me suis-je attaché à ce gentil crétin, efficacement soutenu par un casting qui, sans être brillant, a joué honnêtement les rôles secondaires ultra-classiques qui lui ont été confiés. Ainsi de Sakura-nantoka (Tegoshi Yuya), l’élève victime d’extorsion et qui s’épanouira aux côtés de son nouvel ami, Umemura-San (Aragaki Yui), lycéenne certifiée 100% pure et innocente, Minami-Sensei aka Tekkamen (Kashii Yu), la jeune enseignante découvrant toutes les facettes de son métier au-delà du simple enseignement, sans oublier l’antique infirmière Mizushima (Motai Masako), voice of wisdom and reason for our teenager. Yakuza side, I also give a good father figure to (Ichimura Masachika), obviously tough but loving: he arrived at the meeting between parents and teachers, as envisioned by Makio, remains a moment of anthology. A humorous note also the performance of Tanaka Koki henchman seriously infatuated with the heir to the clan.

If I say "a yakuza who must return to school," you can assume that there will be humor dork and preposterous situations. And you'd be right. But that does not include the hilarious game Tomoya Nagase who certainly seems to have skin in the facial expressions of rebelz stupid. We do not watch My Boss My Hero for his screenplay for its breathtaking but actors playing their role so well that dork is bent with laughter even before they open their mouths.
